Back into the Roger Dubuis Hommage Monopoussoir H40. I acquired this watch some 10 decades back. It was sold new in the USA by Steven Holzman who had been Roger Dubuis representative in america at the moment. During one of my Baselworld visits, a couple of decades after, I ran to Steven and he was really extremely delighted to see that the watch again. It had been an extraordinary piece for him as well.During the identical calendar year, and probably even more unique, I ran into Roger Dubuis himself in Baselworld. And he had been drifting the fair with the artist who left the dial! This was such a coincidence. This surely made the watch even more particular to me.The dial of this watch is nothing short of stunning. The colour, the finesse in finishing, the contrast, the interaction with the palms. Indescribable. I hope that the pictures will do it marginally justice. Then the white gold of this casing gives the watch this kind of rich feeling. It’s warm in colour and temperature; the hand twisting feels differently from a stainless steel watch. At six at the dial, involving the words and Produced, ‘GQHM’ is printed. Not many understand the significance of this however it’s thought to indicate ‘Geneva Quality Hall Mark’. The Roger Dubuis Hommage Monopoussoir H40 watch conveys no less than the ‘Bulletin d’Observatoire’ for accuracy and the ‘Poinçon de Genève’ quality certificate. All paperwork belonging to these certifications are provided with the opinion, together with warranty and number certificate signed by Roger Dubuis himself.
Last but not least, a white gold case back is inserted individually. I can’t imagine anyone ever has employed this accessory; that does not enjoy the expression of the absolutely completed RD65 caliber? The watch is supplied within an unequalled box with wood inlay, and a leather passport-like portfolio contains all of the paperwork. When the watch was sold new its retail cost was about US$ 37.000,Made with the RD 540 form shaped motion , strangely wrapped in a 45mm diameter pink gold round case. I’m wondering why use a kind motion, which is typically a signature of a kind case, in a round case.Nonetheless, the motion is nicely done. Made of 293 hand-finished components, a whole 750 hours of production, of which 220 are devoted to meeting the stringent demands of the Poinçon de Genève, together with Roger Dubuis putting claim are the only watchmaker to have 100% certificate by the Geneva agency. A daring design, and implementation, but one which in my opinion, functions on a watch like this. The motion is well laid out, with great finishing. Notice the anglages of the bridges are nicely done, with the sharp horn on the bridge around the top. On the other hand, the inward angles onto the elaborate toubillon bridge is only finished and curved instead of a more difficult and, to my eyes, a beautiful execution with sharp edges.
