The Velvet Haute Couture Passementerie watch is the third model in the Haute Couture line that was presented at Watches & Wonders 2014, following the Velvet Haute Couture Mink Fur and Corsetery models.
Highlighting the traditional art of trimmings (passementerie) as exemplified by the venerable Parisian house of Delercq, the beige-toned strap of the Velvet Haute Couture Passementerie watch is sheathed in a crafted silk thread fishnet pattern finished with a braided trim evoking a perfect stocking top.
The warm grey of the fishnet picks up the shade of the ruthenium-treated dial with its brushed centre and satin sunburst exterior, graced by the pink gold hues of the applied Roman numerals.
1.66 ct of brilliant-cut diamonds adorn the bezel of the 36 mm pink gold case, as well as the distinctive lugs, the décor and the matching pink gold adjustable folding clasp.
This, likely, goes courtesy of its own strong rose gold bracelet that is incorporated with all the Velvet’s body and could likely look better on a timekeeper created for men.The pair of applied rose gold Roman numerals on the dial, in addition to the fat bezel that’s adorned with 66 diamonds totaling 1.33 carats, too, did not assist the timepiece look any lighter.Well, it’s still seems brilliant and the 266 diamonds which adore the Velvet’s massive bezel and the bracelet and together total 2.98 carats somehow compensate for its visual heaviness of this jewelry item.According into the Swiss watchmaker, the watch is powered by an upgraded version of the exact same RD821 caliber that animated the aforementioned Excalibur Lady from the last year: an extremely efficient automatic caliber which, despite its compact size and relatively short mainspring reducing the caliber’s overall thickness (something which becomes quite important once you design a comparatively little timekeeper developed for a nice lady’s wrist,) includes a power reserve of 48 hours.Yes, it might still not be sufficient to simply leave the eye in box for the weekend, but is still quite impressive taking into account that a lot of its competitors revived by more archaic mechanisms would frequently offer you no longer than 40 hours of continuous operation after being fully wound. The new version of the movement not just lacks the tiny moments indicator, but can also be compliant with the new Geneva Seal demands that guarantee the highest quality and trustworthiness of the hand-built caliber. The suggested cost is yet to be shown, but it’s absolutely clear that the watch will be costlier than the Excalibur Lady which retails for around $17,000.
The watch comes with an additional shiny taupe alligator strap that can be worn anytime, anywhere.
